Buy a Set or Mix & Match?

Two paths work. Bedroom sets pair a bed, dresser, mirror, chest, and nightstand in a coordinated finish — everything matches out of the box and it’s usually a better per-piece price than buying separately. Mixing pieces gives you more freedom — you can choose a statement bed and pair it with dressers and nightstands in a contrasting or complementary finish for a layered look.

Bed Sizes

  • Twin — 38″ × 75″. Best for kids’ rooms and small spaces.
  • Twin XL — 38″ × 80″. Same width as twin, 5 extra inches of length. Common in college dorms.
  • Full — 53″ × 75″. Good for single adults or guest rooms.
  • Queen — 60″ × 80″. The most popular size in the US. Fits most bedrooms.
  • King — 76″ × 80″. Wide enough for two adults plus a kid (or a dog) without anyone losing covers.
  • California King — 72″ × 84″. Narrower but longer than standard king — better for tall sleepers.

Bring your room measurements when you visit. Leave at least 24 inches on each side of the bed for walking room and nightstands.

Headboard Styles

Headboards do most of the visual work in a bedroom:

  • Panel beds — a flat or paneled wood headboard. Classic, works with almost anything.
  • Upholstered beds — padded with fabric or faux leather. Softer feel and good for reading in bed.
  • Storage beds — drawers built into the base. Great for small rooms without dresser space.
  • Sleigh beds — curved headboard and footboard. More formal, traditional look.
  • Bunk beds and daybeds — space-efficient options for kids’ rooms and guest spaces.

Storage: Dressers, Chests, and Nightstands

  • A dresser is wide and low — usually 6 to 9 drawers, often with an attached or coordinating mirror.
  • A chest is tall and narrow — 4 to 6 drawers stacked vertically. Good for tighter wall space.
  • Nightstands typically come in pairs. Pick a height that’s within a couple inches of your mattress top so a lamp and phone are within easy reach.

Youth Bedroom

For kids’ rooms we stock bunk beds, day beds, twin and full bedroom sets, and smaller-scale dressers and nightstands. Pieces in our Youth Bedroom collection are sized and styled for ages 4 through teen.

Bedroom FAQs

What are the standard bed sizes?

Twin (38″×75″), Twin XL (38″×80″), Full (53″×75″), Queen (60″×80″), King (76″×80″), California King (72″×84″). Queen is most popular in the US.

Should I buy a set or piece it together?

Sets are typically a better per-piece value and arrive in a matching finish. Piecing it together costs a little more but lets you build a layered look with mixed finishes or styles — popular for primary bedrooms where the design carries the room.

What size headboard do I need for my mattress?

Headboards are sold for specific bed sizes — queen, king, etc. A queen-size headboard mounts to a queen bed frame. Some upholstered headboards adjust to fit multiple sizes.

How many nightstands should I buy?

Two, one on each side of the bed. Sold individually or as part of a set. If you have a really small bedroom and only one nightstand fits, that’s fine — pair it with a wall sconce on the other side.

What’s the difference between a dresser and a chest?

Dresser = wide and low (typically 6-9 drawers). Chest = tall and narrow (typically 4-6 drawers). Many bedroom sets include both. Use a dresser as the primary storage with a mirror on top; use a chest for tighter wall space or as a companion piece.
